We perform transthoracic echocardiograms in our office on a daily basis. We also offer this service at all of our outreach clinics and to inpatients at our affiliated hospitals. The Echocardiography Lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). We also offer transesophageal echocardiography on an outpatient basis, and inpatient or postoperatively as needed.
A fetal echocardiogram is a test that allows for early diagnosis of congenital heart defects. Early diagnosis allows our pediatric cardiologists to develop a plan of care with perinatology and neonatology teams for high risk patients in complicated situations. Diagnosis before delivery also may provide patients and their family’s valuable time to make well-informed medical decisions. Arizona Pediatric Cardiology Phoenix Children’s Medical Group performs more than 1,500 fetal echocardiograms each year and our program continues to grow.
In certain cases, more detailed information is required regarding the anatomy and physiology of a heart defect. Our pediatric cardiologists provide diagnostic cardiac catheterization services as well as some interventional services. Arizona Pediatric Cardiology Phoenix Children’s Medical Group collaborates with local interventional pediatric cardiologists in Tucson and Phoenix for the most complex cases. Recent advances in technology have reduced, and in some cases eliminated, the need for open heart surgery for many heart defects.
Arizona Pediatric Cardiology Phoenix Children’s Medical Group operates the only dedicated pediatric stress lab in Southern Arizona. We offer cardiac stress testing for a variety of reasons including evaluation of exercise-induced chest pain, evaluation of cardiac arrhythmias and cardiomyopathy. Our lab also offers metabolic and pulmonary function testing and stress echocardiography.
Our lab is located in our office to provide a warm and comfortable environment for our patients and families.
To diagnose and treat an abnormal rhythm of the heart (arrhythmia), Arizona Pediatric Cardiology Phoenix Children’s Medical Group performs an electrophysiology (EP) study to determine the cause of the abnormal rhythm. Our pediatric cardiologists are specialty trained in the diagnosis and management of arrhythmias. We offer a full range of noninvasive diagnostic arrhythmia studies including Holter monitoring, event monitoring systems and tilt table tests. When invasive testing or therapies are required, dedicated pediatric electrophysiologists from our Phoenix office are available.
Because of improved diagnosis and treatment, congenital heart patients are living longer into adulthood and requiring lifelong cardiac care. We offer a full range of services for adults with congenital heart disease including echocardiography, electrophysiology, stress testing and cardiac catheterization.
